Zusammenfassung
This paper presents an outline history of nature protection in the Pieniny Mts. starting from the fi rst statements on the necessity for protecting the Pieniny Mountains dating to the latter half of the twentieth century until the ones dating to the end of the twentieth century. The article mentions about the events in Poland and Czechoslovakia as well as in later Slovak Republic. The major attention was given to the history of establishing the national parks in the Pieniny Mts. on the Polish and Slovak sides as well as their later activities. The author also focuses on the problems related to the nature protection in the neighbouring areas – in Małe Pieniny (the Small Pieniny) and in Pieniny Spiskie. An issue of special attention was cooperation between Poland and Slovakia in nature protection, which led to creation of the fi rst transboundary nature park in Europe in 1932.
